Music Blog Evaluation

 Music Blog Evaluation

What did I enjoy learning in music this year?
I really enjoyed learning how to play the ukulele it was very interesting and I picked it up quite quickly.

What have you found challenging about music this year?
I found the piano to be quite challenging due to the fact I couldn't quite get my fingers to stretched to the right keys which really frustrated me.

What did you perform for your final assessmant? Who did you perform with? Why did you choose that song?
I performed with Chloe and Anneleise, we chose to do the song beat it by Michael Jackson because its quite easy and also because it was stuck in my head that day.

How did you find performing?
I found it really fun like I was nervous at first but then I started playing and I kinda forgot that everyone was there.

Were you happy with your performance?
Yes I was quite pleased with our performance although I feel we could have done abit better it was still good.

Any other comments about music 2020?
Not really it was pretty great!

Learn how to be an up stander

Learn how to be an upstander

For Wananga this week we are learning about pink shirt day we had a choice on different tasks to do, I decided to learn how to be an upstander and now i'm going to being showing you five different actions on how to be an upstander.

Definition of an upstander:
A person who uses words and actions that can help someone who is being bullied. There are a range of helpful actions that you can take if you feel safe enough to do so.

1. Action
Awhi/Support the person experiencing bullying, let them know you got their back let them know they're not alone!
2. Action
Call it! Use your words to show Aroha and Kindness to those involved, don't just stand by and watch it may be hard to speak up for them in the moment back trust me it does make a huge difference.
3. Action
Distract: Interrupt the bullying in some way, help them leave the situation they are in, ask the person that is being bullying if they want to go for a walk or something.
4. Action
Leave and act: If you don't feel safe to step in while the bullying is happening move away from the situation and talk to the person that was being bullied later and let them know you saw what happened and encourage them to go get some support.
5. Action
Get some other help: Support the person getting bullied to get some help from a trusted teacher, adult or their Whanau.

Applesauce muffins

Applesauce muffins( With substitutions)

For home economics we made applesauce muffins, some of the muffins had slight substitutions like Canola & milk, canola & soy, butter & wholemeal flour, soy & wholemeal flour, Canola & wholemeal flour, then butter & soy. We had to go around and taste all of the applesauce muffins with different substitutions and then we had to judge them on a sheet we had. My group made the original applesauce muffins but we added a chocolate chips in the middle.

Here is the recipe

Here are my ratings I only got a certain amount and not the whole lot because I ran out of time to try all of them.

Original: The original was pretty alright it had flavour and the chocolate chip really added to make it better, however the muffin itself was in the middle of cooked and not cooked so it was a bit soggy but not to the point where I couldn't handle it.

Canola and Soy: It was a bit wet in the middle didn't really have a taste I feel like they could have cooked it more.

Butter and wholemeal: Tasted really good was cooked properly, this group cooked it perfectly even though it didn't have a really good flavour the muffin was cooked very well and wasn't raw I was very impressed.

Butter and soy: This one didn't really have a flavour it didn't taste or look very appetising, when I was chewing it was almost difficult to keep in my mouth because of the texture I felt like I had to keep chewing in order to swallow it. I feel like they could have been faster and cooked it more to make it better.

Overall general comment:
I feel like the overall whole thing was really interesting,  the food was a bit tasteless but I guess if I had no choice and was in a life or death situation I would eat the muffins again
How did my group work together:
My group worked really well together everyone was doing something to contribute to the cooking and there was no arguments on any of the rolls we had, even though we were in a rush everyone ended up staying calm and we didn't mess up anything.

Instrument Evaluation

 Instrument Evaluation

1. What have you studied in music this term?
We have studied piano, ukulele, and guitar.

2.Which instrument have you enjoyed and why?
I enjoyed ukulele because it was very easy to play and it was small enough for me to hold

3. Which Instrument did you find the most challenging and why?
I found piano to be the most challenging because my fingers are really short and I found it difficult to move my fingers around the keys.

4. Which instrument are you going to focus on for the rest of the term and why? What would you like to achieve
I am gonna focus on playing the ukulele I want to be able to play a whole song

Power to the people Hurumanu 6

Power to the people Hurumanu 6

We were told to create, a good name for "Power to the people" because we are creating a political party for our kahui, Tieke. We made a slogan that was inspired by Bob the builder's theme song. We have groups of five and all from different wananga classes. Here is our poster and logo that we made, and our slogan.

Art- Hannah Höch inspired Art

 Art-  Hannah Höch inspired Art

For art this term we have been learning about the artist Hannah Höch she is best known for her feminist photo montage work,  Hannah Höch's work is very interesting because she cuts and crops her own pieces of work to express how she felt in a very artistic way. We got to make our own Hannah Höch inspired photo montage pieces but instead of cutting stuff with scissors we had to do it digitally. This was very challenging for me cutting out pieces on a background remover and fitting the pieces together but I also learnt alot of neat techniques on google drawing and I got to express my opinions freely. I will now be showing off my photo montages.

When I was creating my photo montages it was very difficult for me to find inspiration but I found that looking at one of her art pieces gave me alot of inspiration and I really like how my photo montages came out.

End of life choice Referendum

 End of life choice Referendum

What is the end of life choice about:
This basically gives a person over the age of 18 that has a terminal illness and a certain amount of time to live the option of assisted death, so if they are in to much pain and just don't want to suffer anymore they can choose to end their life peacefully and painless.

What is the criteria to have the option of assisted death:
To be eligible for assisted death you need to be 18 years or older, be a permanent citizen of New Zealand, suffer from a terminal illness that's likely to end your life within 6 months, have ongoing decline in physical capability, experience unbearable suffering that cannot be eased, and be able to make an informed decision about assisted dying.

Positives and negatives:
The positives that I can think of is they get to stop their suffering and be at peace, they don't have to live the rest of their life worrying about when they might die, they know when they are gonna die.
Negatives -  The negatives are that some doctors don't feel comfortable with this because they want to save lives not end them.

Do I support this or not?
Yes I support this I feel like if this person really wants this then its what's best for them its their choice and it end suffering.

The guitar

The guitar

For music we are learning how to play the guitar

What is challenging about Playing/Learning the guitar? I think the challenging part is trying to stretch my fingers out because I have small fingers and also getting the chords sound right.
What are the differences between guitar and ukulele? Which one is better/easier for you to play and why? Well the obvious difference is that one is physically smaller and the other bigger, I think for me the ukulele is easier to play because its little and the chords are pretty easy for me.
Find a song that you like where guitar is the main instrument. Add the link to your blog and explain who performs it/sings it and why you like it . I like the song about a girl by nirvana the live version I like it because of the sound and how good the guitar sounds. song

Structure of New Zealand's Government Hurumanu 6

Structure of New Zealand's Government Hurumanu 6

In our Hurumanu Power to the People, we are learning about New Zealand's politics & how the government runs. New Zealand is democratic and has an election every 3 years. Democracy is a form of government in which the citizens hold political power and can vote. New Zealand is also a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of Government. Our head of state is presently Queen Elizabeth II. At the moment she is represented by the Governor - General, Dame Pasty Reddy.  New Zealand's Government is made up of four different categories/groups, these include the head of state, Legislative, Executive and, Judicial.  Throughout creating this poster I learnt about parliament and how it works, I also learnt about what judicial means.

Potato frittata- Home economics

 Potato frittata- Home economics

In home economics we made potato frittata, we used eggs, cheese, potato's, salt and pepper, peas, and corn.

Sight: I think our food didn't look very appetising simply for the fact that my group didn't add the other vegetables so it would give our food that colour pop so it looked very average and boring.

Smell: I didn't particularly enjoy the smell of the dish because of the egg.

Taste: Our dish honestly tasted pretty good it had enough salt and pepper and the food was all cooked evenly.

Rate your food product:
6/10 our food was very delicious but it didn't look all that good.

What could you do differently to improve the rating of your food product next time?
I think we could be more experimental with the vegetables we use to make it more appetising

How did the team work together?
My team worked really well together there was no arguments and we all did the jobs we were suppose to with no disagreements we got it done.

Mac & Cheese - Home economics

Mac & Cheese - Home economics
For home economics last week we made mac & cheese.

Ingredients:
Onion
Cornflour
Milk
Macaroni
Tomato
Breadcrumbs
Cheese

We used a skill called roux sauce. Roux is flour and fat cooked together and used to thicken sauces. My groups sauce turned out pretty good but I think because we were rushing it wasn't as thick as I wanted it to be but it turned out alright.

Sight:
Well it looked like mac & cheese, but I think we could have worked on our presentation a bit more we didn't have enough time to leave it to cook in the oven so it didn't really look how I wanted it to but other then that it looked edible.

Smell:
It smelt pretty good

Taste:
Our mac & cheese tasted pretty alright but since the onion didn't get enough time to cook and we didn't cut them small enough it tasted pretty weird because there was just big clumps of raw onion in our mac & cheese.

Rate your food product
6.5/10

what could you do differently to improve the rating of your food product next time?
I think that we could have started cooking a bit earlier because we ended up rushing a lot and ended up having raw onion in our food.

How did the team work together:
We worked really well together there were no arguments or anything like that and everyone was helping to do something weather it be cooking or cleaning and even though we were rushing we still ended up finishing.

Particle theory expansion and contraction

Particle theory expansion and contraction

Theory:
I think that it will like explode and the can will break

What is expansion, what causes it to happen?
Applying heat (Causes space between particles to increase)

What is contraction, what causes it to happen?
Cool particles down (move less, become closely packed together more dense)

Results:
The can did end up imploding, when I put the can into the cold water it like crunched up and popped a hole in the can it made a pop like noise when it exploded it also steamed a lot.

Discussion:
The particles started to heat up and move faster and then when it got put into the cold water it contracted and crunched up.

Inclusiveness task

Inclusiveness task

This task helped me change my judgement and thoughts because it showed me that I can't just judge someone by the way they present themselves or their cultures and religions, the way someone looks doesn't always represent their personality and if they are a good person or not, we can't be to quick to judge because we think this stranger is a bad person because they have tattoos, we are all human and we all have feelings.

How has this made you feel?
It made me feel quite sad and angry to see that not everyone is getting treated the same just because of their gender, sexuality, disabilities, skin colour, or religion its quite upsetting that people can't learn to handle change yet because their so close minded.

How have your thoughts changed during this lesson on inclusion?
My thoughts haven't really changed I've always tried to treat people fairly and include everyone but it has helped me think about it more and just how unfair some people can be.

Conduction stop motion

Conduction stop motion

What is convection?
energy transferred through heating by contact for example when the glue was heated up it started moving faster and melted causing the nails to fall and allowing the heat to move to the hand.

In this stop motion we are trying to show you how convection works, this stop motion shows that when the metal rod is heated up the heat travels up the metal rod therefore melting the glue and making the particles in the glue move faster releasing the nails that have been glued onto the rod. But if you hold the rod for to long the heat will travel all the way up to your hand making it hard to hold.

Home economics - stir fry

 Home economics - stir fry

Today I am going to be making a review on some food my friend made for home economics since I was not here.

I feel like the group could have added more colour and made it look presentable, it looks like it taste very bland and If i'm being honest It does not look very appetising.

Slam dunk paragraph

Slam dunk paragraph

For chaos today we learned how to structure a slam dunk paragraph and here is the one I made.

What was life like in the middle ages? Truthfully, it was pretty terrible depending on what and who you were, life was significantly different for the rich and the poor.  Rich people like the king and queen lived in castles, ate a bunch of food, and showered everyday. The poor, lived on farms, did not have enough food, and hardly showered. This was important because it shows how people in different classes were treated, how they lived their lives and how unfair life was.

Diffusion/Particle theory - Hurumanu 3

Diffusion/Particle theory

This week our focus is about particle theory - and how particles move

Aim- Investigate if particles diffuse faster in hot or cold water

Hypothesis- I think that the particles will diffuse faster in hot water

Method- fill up 2 petri dishes one hot one cold
               Add the potassium permanganate

Particle Theory

1. Particles make up everything
2. Particles are always moving
3.Particles are attached to each other
4. Hotter= faster
5. Colder= slower
6. Always space between particles

Results:
the hot one did end up going purple faster

Discussion: I think it happened because when particles are in a hotter environment it tends to move faster then when it is in a colder environment.

Evaporation Experiment

Evaporation Experiment
For chemicals and chaos we have been learning about evaporation, evaporation is when liquid turns into gas, for example if a liquid is heated up to its boiling point it will evaporate and turn into a gas.

Aim:
We are doing this experiment to learn more about evaporation and to learn how it works and what will happen to the copper sulfate.

Hypothesis:
I think that we will see some gas and some of the copper sulfate will evaporate.

Equipment: Copper sulfate solution, 250mL beaker, Heat proof mat, evaporating basin, element.

Method:

  1. Set up the element
  2. Add 100mL of hot water to the beaker and place on the element
  3. Add copper sulfate to the evaporating basin till its a quarter full
  4. Carefully, place the evaporating basin on top of the beaker
  5. Turn on the element to 8
  6. Heat the solution until most of solvent has been evaporated and crystals of solute are forming.
  7. Turn off element- careful not to touch as will be hot for a long time.

Observation: As time goes by we see that inside the beaker there where bubbles forming, and maybe a few drops of water & you can slightly hear the small bubbles popping or the sound of boiling happening.

Conclusion: The experiment did not work as the element we were using didn't heat it up enough.

Evaluation: It was fun but, it didn't go as planned but now we see that we may need to adjust some things next time around.

VIA Survey
For Wananga today we did a Character strength test, their was 40 questions and I answered them honestly so here are my top 3 character strengths.

1. Kindness
I feel like this is quite accurate because I love being kind to people it makes me very happy.

2. Humour
I love making people laugh especially when they are down and I just love making jokes and stuff so yeah I would say this is true.

3.  Gratitude
This is pretty accurate I love showing people that I am thankful for them and the stuff they do for me.

9/11 Timeline

9/11 Timeline
This is the 9/11 timeline on what times the planes took off, and when they hit what tower, I learned that their were more then 2 planes.

Why was Twin Towers chaotic:
I believe that twins towers was chaotic because a lot of people lost their life's and life's of many loved ones in the plane and in the tower, it also would have been very traumatic for everyone.

Dilution Experiment

Dilution Experiment
On Monday for chemistry we did an experiment learning how to use serial dilution (Repetitive Dilution) to learn about how concentration gets weaker.

Aim: To make a dilution series to investigate concentration
Equipment: A Potassium Permanganate crystal, six large test tubes. tweezers, a plastic transfer pipette, a test tube rack, 10 mL measuring cylinder.

Method:
  1. Place the six test tubes in a test tube rack. Label the rack with numbers 1 - 6
     2. Using the measuring cylinder, fill test tube 1 with 10 mL of water. Fill the remaining test tubes with 5 mL of water
     3. Using your tweezers, add a single crystal of potassium permanganate to test tube 1.

      4. Gently shake the test tube until the crystal has dissolved

      5. Using the transfer pipette, carefully remove exactly 5 mL from test tube 1 and pour it into test tube 2.
       6. Rinse the transfer pipette thoroughly to ensure that no purple solution remains.

        7. Gently shake test tube 2 and repeat the transfer process, transferring exactly 5 mL of solution from test tube 2 to test tube 3.
8: Rinse the pipette again and repeat the transfer process for test tubes 4, 5  and 6.

Results

Health hurumanu/ Online vs Real life relationships

Health hurumanu/ Online vs Real life relationships
For hurumanu today we were given the statement "Online relationships are not as important as real-life relationships" we then have to debate this statement and try present both sides of the argument.

Some people might think that online relationships are not as important as platonic and romantic real life relationships, I think this argument is true why? imagine having a friend or romantic partner on the other side of the world and their time zone is different from yours, so when its day time for you its midnight for them when its daytime for them its midnight for so you get my point? this could effect your sleeping pattern and or just ruin the relationship due to communicating and not talking then you would probably ghost each other and never talk again like ever.

I feel that online relationships can be very unreliable and people sometimes are just very untruthful about things like cat fishing (Luring someone into a relationship by means of a fictional online persona) some people even use cat fishing to get money off of people by making up a story on why they need it.

Another point of view on this argument, I must say there isn't always bad people out their the internet can be a awesome place to meet awesome people but you just have to be careful and watch for dodgy signs.

My opinion is that real life relationships are better then online ones! why? I mean its quite obvious right? that you can actually see the person and spend time with them, and you know that they aren't lying about their appearance because they're right in front of you. I feel that having a friend or partner in real life will help your relationship grow and become stronger because you can have physical contact and online contact, and you aren't going out of your way to stay up until 5 am to just have a conversation with them.

On the other hand people may think that real life relationships aren't for them some people with anxiety are more comfortable with talking to people behind a screen then in person, or maybe they just haven't found the right group of friends or friend in person and their soulmate happens to live across the world, so HEY! what can you do right? it is what it is.

In conclusion I don't mind online relationships and I definitely think they are good for people that have trouble making friends and talking to people in person and I don't have a problem with that at all, but I definitely do prefer real life relationships because of my argument above.

Hurumanu Chaos Mouse Plague

Hurumanu Chaos Mouse plauge

1. Where did this happen?
Western Australia
2. How did this happen?
Heaps of rain over the summer growing heaps of crops for mice to eat
3. How much offspring (Babies) can 2 mice parents makes?
Two Thousand

4. How much wheat did mice eat
500 thousand tons of wheat enough to feed the whole of Utah

5. How did they get rid of the mice and how many dead mice were there?
more then 100 million dead mice.
They air dropped 1080 poison on them

Rat temple
1.Where is this happening
Rat Temple in Northern India

2.Why is this happening
They think of rats as gods or ancestors like family members reborn.

3. What special treatments do rats get
They don't treat them like rodents, they get fed and eat before the people do taste testers if they stop rats from eating its basically bad karma. The rats are allowed to pee on people and poop everywhere, they are worshipped.

Filtration Experiment

Filtration Experiment

In hurumanu 3 today we are going to be doing a Filtration Experiment, we have been learning about particles and today we are going to try and filter them.

Hypothesis: What do you think will happen

Aim: To separate a solution from a precipitate (precipitate is the name for a solid that forms in a liquid during a chemical reaction)

Equipment:
Sodium carbonate

Copper sulfate

Conical flask

Stirring Rod

200mL Beaker

Funnel

Filter paper

Hypothesis: What do you think will happen?
I don't think that much will happen I think it will just stay blue but im really hoping something interesting will happen.

Method
1. Pour approximately 50mL of copper sulfate solution into a beaker.
2. Add the same volume of sodium carbonate solution. A reaction will happen, you should see a cloudy blue precipitate form. Called copper carbonate.
3. Watch demo then fold filter paper to fit inside the funnel
4. Place the funnel with the filter paper inside of it, into the mouth of a conical flask.
5. Stir the mixture in the beaker, then carefully pour it into the funnel.

6. Observe what happened.

Observations and Discussion:
When we poured the liquids into the funnel it was a very ultra blue type colour but when it started filtering it turned into a clear colour which was the sodium carbonate we mixed into the copper sulfate , on the filter paper there was a blue residue that we could see.
All of the blue colour got filtered out and left behind a clear liquid.

Lock down emotions

Lock down emotions

For this task we had a time limit to write down all of the emotions we felt during lock down I wrote as many emotions as I could.

I felt lazy during the recent lock down event when my sister asked me to go for a walk but I said no because I felt very unmotivated and gross.

I felt anxious when I heard about returning to school because I hadn't had any in person contact with anyone besides my family and I had a lot of anxiety but I slowly eased in..

Today I feel apathetic about being here at school today because I am very exhausted and feel very unfocused at the moment because I didn't get enough sleep but i'm quite sure that my sleeping pattern is fixing itself.

Workshop 3: How do 'Lighting & Colour' enhance the story?

Workshop 3: How do 'Lighting & Colour' enhance the story?

atmosphere- how you feel in a situation/mood

1. Scene- Auggies first day at school- when Auggie walks into class everyone stares at him. When he asks to sit down Amos says the seat is saved.

Angles/shot- Long shot/eye level of class, close ups of Auggie to see his emotion.

Palette- Colours used in film e.g nature palette has colours from nature- brown, green.
Warm/Cold- Warm makes you feel safe/comfortable
                   - Cold makes you feel clean/sterile
Bright-Vibrant, jumps out
Dull- Faded,muted,blends in

Lighting
Natural- Sun or moonlight
Artificial- Man made light e.g light rings.

Light + Colour- Warm-makes the classroom feel safe welcoming
-Bright colours- gives the room energy +life
-Natural light coming through the windows.

Effect on the viewer-
 Happy, chilled, exciting, educational, inspiring.

Director-
Wants to create a happy and safe atmosphere in Mr Browns classroom.

Sexxxy paragraph time!!!

In the scene of August's first day at school, lighting & colour are used to create a safe and welcoming classroom environment. For instance, bright warm colours are used on the walls and natural light comes through the windows to make the space look lively. This makes the audience feel excited, inspired, and that the space is educational and supportive for learning. This was done to show Mr Brown had created a classroom space that would be welcoming to new students like Auggie. Coinciding with this is the use of body language. The children in the room are sitting up, smiling, and paying lots of attention, they are learning ready. This reminds the viewer of the theme kindness because the lighting and colour make the room welcoming for all students.
